NoizeBot

This is the first of our abuses of technology.

NoizeBot is a 3 oscillator, light controlled synth. It is played in a similar way to a theremin, and can make noises from subsonic clicks to piercing whines. It is powered by a simple 9v battery, and the circuit draws only a tiny amount of power, so lasts for ages.

This is not a subtle instrument.

Oscillator 1&2
The first oscillator generates a square wave, the second ringmodulates the first. The pitches of these are controlled via the light sensitive "eyes".

Amplitude Modulation LFO
There is a third oscillator which acts as a gate, the pitch of this is controlled via the knob on the right hand side of the head. This creates various rhythmical textures when the speed is low, or creates more AM sounds when it s sped up to the max.

Power
This turns the power on and off

Power Soak
This gradually cuts the power to the unit which has the effect of strangling the circuits and making it scream in pain. Less power = more noise.

Trigger
This is a mometary switch, a bit like the punch switches on a DJ mixer. It allows you to play it more rhythmically. You just press and hold it for sound, release for silence.

Main Volume
This controlls the main volume of the synth. The volume drops a lot when you cut the power to the unit using the Power Soak, so it's best to have the volume half way up so you can boost it when the volume dips.
